Readers of the "Right to Your Head" are no strangers to the fact that I spent a lot of time for the next race to fill the seat recently vacated by the Congress Dean Heller. For those of you who are unaware, were abducted by aliens, or living under a rock, Heller was appointed by Governor Brian Sandoval to finish term John Ensign resigned from the Senate after the Ensign, having finally realized that his chances of reelection are reduced faster than his zipper.

Secretary of State Ross Miller interpreted our ambiguous electoral laws to allow a special "bulletin Royale," free-for-all election that was immediately contested by the GOP. The case ended in the Supreme Court of Nevada which ruled in favor of Republicans, which allows political parties to choose their own candidates.

OK, everyone is all taken? Good. Now for the nitty gritty.

The election will be held Tuesday, September 13. This election will be held in the same way as all other elections Nevada. Polls will be open 7:00 to 7:00 p.m. on election day.You can contact your local registrar of voters to determine your polling place. With this being a special election, you can not vote at your normal polling place.

Is it a primary election? No. The political parties have already chosen their candidates to appear on the ballot. The Republican candidate is a former State Senator Mark Amodei, and the Democratic candidate is state Treasurer Kate Marshall.

Are independent / non-partisan voter eligible to vote? Yes.As this is a general election pitting candidates from different parties against each other and not a primary, all voters in Nevada are eligible to vote in Congressional District 2, are eligible.

Will early voting / vote by mail? Yes. Early voting will take place August 27-September 9. Postal voting is also available, and the last day to request (in writing) a ballot is Sept. 6.

What are the deadlines to register to vote in the special election? The deadline to register by mail or online (Clark County only) has already passed. The last day to register to vote in person in AugustFrom 27 to 21 hours in recording the person held either at the county clerk or registrar of voters office.

Are there any other local or national races on the ballot? No, this is a special election to fill the vacant position of Northern Nevada is not in session in Congress.
