Neighborhood Delicatessen Offers Family Friendly Food

Found on Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill, PA, Moe’s Delicatessen and Family Restaurant offers hungry customers breakfast any time of the day, lunch and dinner options at affordable prices.

There’s a laid-back atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. The walls are adorned with faces painted by a local artist of Moe’s regular customers. No matter when you still have a sense of welcome from their images.

Our server welcomed us with a friendly smile, telling us to sit wherever we felt comfortable. Moe’s has a decent-sized dining area with upholstered booths and tables.  In the front, you can find the deli to buy sliced brisket, corned beef, lox, or knishes on one side. On the other, guests can satisfy their sweet tooth with three different types of rugelach, snickerdoodles, and black & white cookies.

Moe’s menu definitely had a plethora of selections for people who brought their appetites, and to those just seeking a snack. Breakfast is served throughout the day and separated into various categories. Specials include fruit-n-yogurt parfait and homemade creamed chip beef on toast with potatoes as well as a "Work Week Special."

For dinner I decided to go with The M.A.S. Schmucker, which is a 5 oz. Corned Beef Special that is half the size of their 9 oz. version. The sandwich was still substantial enough that filled my empty stomach and conquered my hunger. The corned beef was neither sliced too thinly that it was shredded, nor too thick that it looked like cutlets stacked upon slices of rye bread.

The meat was only slightly marbled with the tasty fat that gave it tenderness and flavor. The bread was slathered with Russian dressing that comingled with the flavors of coleslaw, rye bread, and the meat, giving the entire sandwich a cohesive standard taste that its fans know and love.

Another Moe’s special ordered was The Yellby. It’s the restaurant’s version of a French Dip sandwich. The Yellby offered a hot brisket with melted provolone cheese served on a fresh ciabatta roll with a cup of hot au jus and a generous amount of fries.

The brisket was cooked tenderly and cut thin. The provolone cheese was melted and gooey without being sloppy. The au jus, although delicious enough to be eaten on its own as soup, I didn’t find necessary to include with the sandwich. The brisket sandwich was flavorful and juicy on its own.

Trying an option from the breakfast selection, Moe’s offers jumbo egg omelettes. The American cheese omelette was cooked to perfection being neither too runny nor dry. The cheese was folded into the omelette so all the ingredients were enrobed into each bite.

My first real job in food was at a bagel place; I was in high school, and I would go out all night in San Francisco, take ecstasy and go to raves, then come back to Napa and make bagels for seven hours. You can print that. The place was called Kirk and

A death in the family brings new insight for me.

My great-aunt died last Wednesday from complications after surgery and cancer. She was 53 years. The funeral was yesterday, which was one of the most beautiful services I've seen. I was not very close to her, but she has always been friendly and a very loving family. She lived life to the fullest and do not let cancer bring her down. My husband also pointed out that it is only 15 years older than us, which reminded him that we are not getting any younger or fitter.

When I look at myself, I have not lived my life to the fullest. I still feel I'm just get by, day by day, waiting for something to happen. I love my husband, family and friends, but I don't fully love my body which equals myself. I set goals and let myself down. They aren't even lofty goals. I have the excuses too. "Oh I work 10 hours a day working with kids under 2 so I'm to tired to work out", "It's to hot/cold to go outside" or "I don't feel like cooking dinner, lets get take out." I also have moments when I say to myself "what the H-E-double hockey sticks am I doing with myself--Nothing!" The kicker is I never used to be this way...but then I was lighter and had more energy. I don't want to reach my 40th birthday next March as an overweight, depressed woman not doing anything to help herself.

I have been on my vacation this past week. Went out on the lake on sunday and I wouldn't even put on my swimsuit, a tankinin. I used to wear a bikini. I know I can never go back to that youthful body, but I would still like to wear a flattering bikini if I lost the weight. I haven't really been overeating or indulging too much. Things I have had are fresh veggies & spinach dip, black bean salsa & chips, fresh fruit, broccoli salad, grilled chicken, ham/turkey sandwiches, tater salad, a smore (gotta have one), string cheese, corned beef bagel dip (good but fattening), greek yogurt, mocha lattes (low-fat) and a few other things. I did have a few more cocktails than I usually do which equal empty calories. I did weigh myself this morning, 188.8 lbs. This is my heaviest by far. I know I have some inflamation in my body, aches from sleeping in a camper, not enough restful sleep and traveling 350 miles yesterday in a car, but that may account for a pound or two.

So, my plan for the rest of my vacation has changed now that we are home.
