10 Practical Tips in Preventing the Spread of Sore Eye or ...

Recently, some friends and co-workers went missing from work for a week. Main Reason? – Sore Eyes Infections. With the continuous cycles of dry and wet weather, the epidemic form of Sore Eyes or Acute Viral Conjunctivitis is now prevailing in our community.

Common cause of the infection according to my friends and co-workers are transmission of bacterial and viral infections with some experiencing sore eyes because of allergic reactions.

Sad thing is when one family member is stricken with this condition, the rest of the family members follow before the week is over “Nagkakahawaan Na” Sore Eyes can spread in areas where people live, work, and play closely together. If you are around someone with sore eye or pink eye, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. Wash them as often as possible . Bedding, towels, and personal items including soap that come in contact with secretions should not be shared . Wash and change sheets and pillowcases every day as much as possible. People, who share computer keyboards with others at work or at home like us, must carefully wash their hands before they touch anywhere around their faces , especially during cold and flu seasons. Avoid touching your face nor touch your infected eye when your hands have yet to be washed . Use tissues to wipe and dispose properly. Put warm compress , such as a washcloth soaked in warm water, on your eye for a few minutes, three to four times a day . This eases the discomfort and helps break up some of the crust that may form on your eyelashes & eyelids. Do not put a patch over your eye . It may cause the infection to become worse. Do not wear your contact lenses until the infection is gone. Eye drops should not be shared among individuals, since this may cause spread of the infection. Disinfecting surfaces like countertops, sinks, and doorknobs can also help prevent the spread of infection .
