Some Catholic parishes now have the option for the parents to instruct First Communion to their children through Catholic Homeschooling and on occasion this is the only option. Regardless of the situation, instructing a child Catechism from home in preparation for First Communion may be a big responsibility. What’s a parent to do with such a huge occupation of instructing their child the Catholic faith?

You could always start out with lesson plans that you create. Each lesson could be the basic understanding of Catholicism.For example: A lesson plan may be in terms of prayer and another might be in regard to parts of the Mass

Here is the easiest way and most effective way to teach your first communion:

- Create your own lesson plan. You can break it down by topics, such as prayer, the elements of the Mass, Bible stories, and vocabulary. - Plan a party for your first communion. This is a special day in their life and yours and you should be commemorated with a little visit.

When your child completes his/her First Communion, I hope you feel a sense of pride that you’ve instilled them a foundation of faith that will take them further on their studies. Next up is Confirmation, but don’t worry, you have a while before then to commence lesson planning again!
