Phelan's corner: 70th-anniversary tribute to the Jeep

Jeep lovers can enjoy a 70th-anniversary tribute to the legendary vehicles next week at the Walter P. Chrysler museum in Auburn Hills.

Sponsored by supplier Dana Holding -- a long-term partner that's supplied Jeeps with axles and propshafts for 70 years -- the event commemorates July 15, 1941, the day the U.S. Army signed the contract that made Willys-Overland the lead producer of military reconnaissance vehicles.

Running July 12-17, the exhibition will have historic Jeeps and concepts. A cruise night on July 13 welcomes enthusiasts Awards will include one for the best Jeep.

Jeep history buff and retired Chrysler engineer Larry Johnson will discuss Jeep's history and evolution July 16. Admission to the museum is free July 15-17. There is a fee forJohnson's presentation.

Walter P. Chrysler Museum to Showcase New 2011 Vehicles Amid ...

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Walter P. Chrysler Museum visitors will find that some good things come in big packages as the Museum, located in Auburn Hills, Mich., showcases nearly a dozen 2011 Chrysler Group LLC and FIAT vehicles this Sunday, Dec. 12.  And while strolling through this one-day new model preview, guests can also enjoy a little holiday cheer with the Museum's annual Cars, Trees & Traditions exhibition. Cars, Trees & Traditions highlights decades of holiday season celebrations through 23 decorated trees.  Evergreens on the Museum's two top floors feature authentic 1900s – 1980s ornamentation, while those in Boss Chrysler's Garage are embellished by theme.  Vintage ads and images accompany each tree.  This years' exhibit also features 18 authentic model trains ranging from 1911 – 1980s from private collector John Loeding of Lapeer, Mich.
