Wedding festivities take flight with the Eagles

The wedding celebrations have already started in Monaco, where the principality’s Prince Albert II is marrying South African commoner Charlene Wittstock in a civil ceremony later this afternoon.

The three-day nuptials began last night with a concert by American rock group the Eagles, of Hotel California fame.

Sharing their joy in the case of their forthcoming marriage with the people of Monaco, the concert was open to 15,000 people, each of which has been able to get their hands on two free tickets.

The Prince and Princess attended the event, both dressed in black suits and casual waving and smiling as they took their seats in the stadium.

This is the second time the couple made a public appearance in the last few days, the occasion being the other Wednesday when they were seen walking around the Principality checking on the various wedding preperations.

Other dignitaries at the event last night included Princess Caroline and her children.

The Eagles played popular songs Try and Love Again, Life in the Fast Lane, Hotel California, of course, and many others.

The surprise hit of the night was Love Will Keep Us Alive, which was dedicated to the betrothed.

At the end of the two-hour concert, the couple received a standing ovation from the crowd, who shouted, "Thank you" and "Bravo".

The wedding steps up a gear today with the first of two services and another free concert this evening.

This time Jean-Michel Jarre will provide the entertainment, with a music, video and light show in Port Hercule at 10.30pm.

Before that, at 5pm, the prince will marry Miss Wittstock in a civil ceremony in the palace's 'Throne Room'.

It will broadcast live to the citizens of Monaco on giant screens in the Place du Palais, directly outside of the palace itself.

Then tomorrow comes the religious ceremony in the Palace Cour d'Honneur, which will be lead by the Archbishop of Monaco and attended by a host of glamorous guests - from fellow European royalty to fashion designers, film stars and business tycoons.

The couple will drive around the streets of the principality after exchanging vows so that well-wishers can catch a glimpse of the beautiful bride and her regal groom.

If you are of a certain age and even only a casual music listener, chances are you would not only be familiar with the Eagles hits - through sheer osmosis - but know the lyrics to the songs as well. For such is the attraction of the classic tracks.

For the fans, the Eagles’ Hell Freezes Over (1994) would be considered an essential album. Then again, not many are aware of a second night show where the tracks did not even make it to the album.

"

hey bigo, i may get this. i do enjoy the eagles on occasion. even kerry king of slayer listens to them. i heard him say it in an interview, when the interviewer asked him what’s the weirdest thing he has in his cd collection. he said the eagles cause after headbanging all day, it’s good music to fall asleep to.

i did get one of the japan shows you offered earlier this year. i got the first one. both shows are similar in setlist so i got the first one.

i was listening to zappa-the weasel music acetate 1969 you offered almost three years ago. my tags say 9.11.08. i usually get them the next morning. i like mozart ballet! great post, bigo!!! more zappa and tom waits!!! i can use tom waits-beacon theatre, nyc, ny 9.99, if you have it in your archives.
